Laughing Dove and Emerald-spotted Wood Dove with Blue Waxbill and Yellow-fronted Canary in the background
  5. African Elephant

    African Elephant

This one really was that close, I zoomed out some and have not cropped at all ...
  6. White-fronted Bee-eater x3

    White-fronted Bee-eater x3

This is not a technically perfect shot (at all!), but I like the situation enough to show it anyway. The light was strange with grey sky but still quite a lot of light giving very high contrast in a shot like this one

  8. Bushbuck and Crested Francolin

    Bushbuck and Crested Francolin

    Late afternoon sun ...
  9. White-bellied Sunbird

    White-bellied Sunbird

Sunbirds are almost as impressive as the hummers when it comes to colors and patterns
  10. Black-collared Barbet

    Black-collared Barbet

One of the first spectacular species I saw after arriving in South Africa
  11. Slender Mongose

    Slender Mongose

This was too far away for a portrait, but I hope this will still work

  13. Grey Penduline Tit

    Grey Penduline Tit

Aka African Penduline Tit This particular individual only showed up one day and seemingly explored the old hanging nests (presumably for insects, as they were made by a different species).
  14. Mariqua Sunbird

    Mariqua Sunbird

The very red color on the breast on this one was seen rarely, obviously depending on angle to the sun. Most of the time, the red on the breast had the color shown in this picture: http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=385812

  16. Pair of Cutthroat Finch

    Pair of Cutthroat Finch

I don't know why the female seems so much taller, except that it has to do with how the birds are sitting.

  18. Blue-tailed Skink

    Blue-tailed Skink

Thanks to dan8402 I now know this is a Blue-tailed Skink
  19. White-bellied Sunbird

    White-bellied Sunbird

I might have a better close up somewhere, but I like the geometry of this shot
  20. Southern Grey-headed Sparrow

    Southern Grey-headed Sparrow

Bill color seems intermediate between breeding and non-breeding when comparing with the Opus page. I guess that makes sense, as August is end of winter in that area.
  21. Jameson's Firefinch

    Jameson's Firefinch

Focus is more on the body than the head, but I still like the back view of the bird ...
  22. Grey-headed Bushshrike

    Grey-headed Bushshrike

It was a bit dark where it came past us, but I like the way it looks
  23. Blue Waxbill

    Blue Waxbill

  24. Brown-crowned Tchagra

    Brown-crowned Tchagra

Busy background, but that is what the bird liked to be in
  25. Small, large, medium

    Small, large, medium

This little family was down drinking at the pond just outside the fence, which can be seen as out of focus lines in front. I never could help but smile when I saw these, always down on their knees whether they wanted to eat, drink, or whatever.
