  1. Woodpecker Finch male

    Woodpecker Finch male

Notice the stick in its bill and notice the dark color of the bill making this a male.
  2. Woodpecker Finch

    Woodpecker Finch

I believe this to be a woodpecker finch. I am also uploading its presumed mate.
  3. Small Tree Finch male

    Small Tree Finch male

Another image found among those incompletely processed back then.
  4. Large Tree Finch

    Large Tree Finch

A second photo of this species. It might be the same bird (45 seconds between the photos I upload) or it may be different - the light is very different. This photo shows clearly the crossed tips of the bill, which is said to be characteristic of this species.
  5. Large Tree Finch

    Large Tree Finch

I was going through some older photos when seeing some I had not decided back then which species they contained. Well, some of them were of this species, and I was not sure I had any photos of it.

    Galapagos Mockingbird

There are 4 species of mockingbirds in the Galapagos Islands. Three of them are endemic to their own islands, but this one is quite widespread over the other islands.

    Giant Galapagos Tortoise

Day 4 of our trip - we are now at Isla Santa Cruz, one of the older islands, where there is a Darwin Research Center. We spent the morning there and then in the afternoon we were taken to the Giant Tortoise Ecological Reserve at El Chato Ranch, in the highlands area. Here's one of the bigger...
  8. Small Ground Finch

    Small Ground Finch

We enjoyed seeing the giant tortoises and were pleased to find lots of birds around the Sanctuary. Sometimes it's difficult to identify the numerous types of finch, but I decided this was a Small Ground Finch, even though it was not on the ground!!
  9. Cerro Dragon (Dragon Hill)

    Cerro Dragon (Dragon Hill)

Day 5 of our Galapagos trip. We were taken ashore in zodiacs for another wet landing, as there was not a jetty at this remote shore on the island of Santa Cruz. We saw 14 species of birds on our walk, one of which - a Brown Noddy Tern, was a lifer!
  10. Dark-billed Cuckoo

    Dark-billed Cuckoo

Also found at the Distillery, was this cuckoo, another lifer!
  11. Galapagos Flycatcher

    Galapagos Flycatcher

On our way to see the giant tortoises on Santa Cruz Island, we stopped at a distillery to see how sugar cane was processed to make an alcoholic drink - the Galapagos equivalent of moonshine! Not being that interested in that, we looked around for the birds and got this lovely flycatcher!

  14. Giant Tortoise

    Giant Tortoise

Galapagos Giant Tortoise is one of the iconic species the archipelago is known for. We saw them in three different conditions: breeding centers where adults were kept in pens and eggs were incubated to maximize reproduction; large areas surrounded by walls to keep goats and other competitors...
  15. Blue-footed Booby Flight Shot

    Blue-footed Booby Flight Shot

One of the first shots of these guys. I was so anxious to get one, I was shooting at every one I saw. I didn't realize that later I would have to be careful not to step on them! lol!! At Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands
  16. Band-rumped Storm Petrel

    Band-rumped Storm Petrel

I took hundreds of storm petrel photos on my recent Galapagos cruise in the hope that I might capture something other than Eliott's Storm Petrel. This is 1 of only 4 photos where I 'got lucky'.
  17. Galapagos Mockingbird GALAP SER

    Galapagos Mockingbird GALAP SER

This species is one of four species of mockingbirds endemic to the Galapagos Islands. It is the most widespread (more islands) of the four.
  18. Greater Flamingo GALAP SER

    Greater Flamingo GALAP SER

This lone flamingo was feeding in a brackish pond behind a beach at Isla Santa Cruz. It appears to have had a diet rich in highly pigmented invertebrates.

    Large-billed (Galapagos) Flycatcher

  22. Large ground finch

    Large ground finch
