    Juvie Red-bellied Woodpecker. Not sure yet if it is a male or female but I'm leaning on Female

    All of a sudden there are a bunch of these little ones (well, not so little) around.

    This Red-bellied Juvie is the only one I've seen so far so either the parents are keeping them under wraps or it hasn't been such a good season for them. This one's perched on what's left of a branch that came down during our ice storm in Feb.

    No photo manipulation here. This is what you get when you are on the short side and shooting through pine needles ;) This poor juvie perched there for more than a half-hour calling and flapping its wings waiting for a parent to come feed it. It evenually gave up and came down to the suet...

    This little one was waiting about 10 ft above the suet feeder for mom to fill up and come feed it. I don't remember seeing fledglings this late in the season and it's not just the Red-bellieds. Northern Cardinals as well. Been a very strange breeding season but excellent for these guys and...
