Our next stop was a parking area for the J S Fishers Lookout. And what impressive views to be had from there too. Wandering about and looking down into the bushes and trees I spotted this young Variegated Fairywren. He was rather kinder than the adults who just never seemed to stop moving. He...

    And here's her beau

Down below, in the scrub, we found her more showy mate. I think they had a nest in there somewhere, as one of the images show the female with a grub. He's a right stunner, isn't he.
  4. A new lady

    A new lady

At the end of that pond we came to more agricultural land with the track bordered by scrubby bushes. Ken spotted a female Variegated Fairywren which fortunately stopped in the open for a moment, after having been down in the depths of the scrub to begin with. The lady fairywrens were...

    Fairy-wren, Purple-backed

These beautiful birds seem to have settled in to the earlier revegetated area at Lake Claremont. They do prefer dense vegetation though, which makes it a challenge to get a clear photo.

We'd now arrived at the JS Fisher's Look Out with more incredible views. We spent a few minutes wandering around here when looking down over the fence spotted something flitting around.. a wee family of Variegated Fairywrens. The only usable picture I got though was of a juvenile, the adults...

    Then his busy...

.... missis! Obviously they've got young to feed.
  9. He's different

    He's different

... just walked on a few yards and movements in the hedge alerted us. Another Lifer in a stunning wee Variegated Fairywren. Just don't ask how on earth I managed to focus on him through all that lot (luck I think LOL).
  10. Variegated

    Variegated

I'll just take a leap of faith and say that this one, with the dark red lores and a non-navy-blue tail, is one of the Variegateds that were the largest of the fairywren flocks we saw there. Would have been great to see these species in breeding plumage, but I guess I was a few weeks too early...

There's an out-of-focus branch cutting off its back so i thought i'd try a closer crop.

    Female Variegated Fairy-wren

Male superb and female variegated fairy-wrens were always more difficult to take a good enough photo until last month :)

I love this bird and this picture as well. I re-edited using another RAW converter and I am happy with results. Hope you like it :)

    Variegated Fairywrens

Had a great start to December, fairywrens rarely sit still long enough to get good shots so I was very pleased when the male and his harem let me have the privilege of focusing on them!

    Very gaited!

Pair of nominate race lamberti. There are fairies at the bottom of the garden! Twittering away, taunting us, they move soooo quickly, and always at dawn and dusk as photo friendly light drains away.A
