    In the middle of a rain shower (and therefore a lot less light), this bird was feeding from the flowers of whatever palm this was.

    Perhaps not technically the best, but this flight shot shows the brilliant glittering colors on its crest when the light hits it just right. Usually the crest appears black. Of the four subspecies, those on the Grenadines are "O. c. emigrans" characterized by green crest tipped bright...

    I have found it difficult to get a decent shot of this gorgeous bird while reflecting light from his crestthis is the first.

    I caught this little guy in a Flamboyant tree and didn't notice his shining crest until I downloaded the photos. Sometimes you get lucky!

    I haven't seen one any larger than 2 inches long, these little guys are so much fun to watch especially in the battles over sugar water, with two other types of hummingbirds we have and the bananaquits.

    ANTILLAEN CRESTED HUMMINGBIRD Orthorhyncus cristatus 8.5-9.5cm. (MALE) Found throught the Lesser Antilleas and Puerto Rico. The northern Lesser Antillean species has a green crest while the southern species has a vivid blue crest when seen face on (male only). This photograph was taken in Barbados.
