  2. Old?

    Old?

I didn't notice at the time. Only saw it when I was zooming in close on my screen to see if this shot was sharp enough for sharing. Then I saw how worn his/her bill is, perhaps even broken and healed. A sign of advanced age? Or (given how little grey I see around the base of the bill) is this a...
  3. 3) Too late

    3) Too late

The Rook had already seen what was going on, and the "tailings" from the Nutcracker's drilling work pretty much showed the Rook where to probe for edible treasure.

  6. Lockdown walkabout

    Lockdown walkabout

During Lockdow we were only allowed an hour's exercise a day, so I used to go out round the local streets, taking a different circuit each day. This particular day the weather wasn't great but I took my camera anyway, just in case. On the other side of the road, was two lots of houses and a...

  8. Leftovers

    Leftovers

But sometimes they don't exactly steal, just pick over the remains of cones the Nutcrackers have left half-finished...

    Dignity - 1

Today's theme is various corvids looking particularly dignified. It's something corvids are quite good at, I find.

I keep trying for shots that show Rooks at their shiniest and most colorful. Sometimes the sun, the bird, and I get in the right alignment.

    Showoff

Technically probably not my best shot of a Rook, but that pose makes it stand out from the rest of the shots I took of them that day, at least. OK. I'm off to bed. I had planned to finish browsing first, but, after several hours of de-seeding rose hips for marmalade, I'm done in. I'll have to...

    Gnarly

Back to my walking group outing to Newtyle in March! Another bird I photographed was a Rook. I think the picture is interesting with the lichen-covered intricate network of twigs and branches.
