    Starlings auditioning for Hitchcock

These starlings were late for their Hitchcock audition. He may have auditioned birds in Sonoma back in the day, but that day is long past now. Maybe they were just late coming over from Europe.
  3. That Way To The Deepend.

    That Way To The Deepend.

An image from my garden, a new bird bath has gone down a treat especially for the young Starlings they love it. These two were having another squabble as they seem to do most of the time. Looks like the one is pointing to the deepend or about to take a swipe at his pal.
  4. Juvenile Starling

    Juvenile Starling

I have a very rowdy bunch of Starlings vissting my garden daily. They are great fun to watch it's like having a load of teenagers running riot in the garden with one or two parents trying to maintain order in vain.

  7. Make like a tree and leaf

Make like a tree and leaf

When the starlings left the elephant seals, they made like a tree. Further from us behind our seal-protective barriers, but quite a sight nevertheless. Also, note the island in the background. Digiscopers have a chance to see rhinoceros auklets there, but my measly 300 lens wasn't stong enough...
  8. Starlings with elephant seal setting

    Starlings with elephant seal setting

I wasn't sure which category to set this in - marine animals, or N-Am birds. I finally decided that I have better images of the elephant seals for later; what makes this one special is the starlings. They seemed to be feeding on flies that were attracted to the seals. The seals would...
  9. Strumpshaw Starling Roost

    Strumpshaw Starling Roost

Just a few of the estimated 10,000 Starlings flying in to roost in the reedbeds overnight. The noise from the reeds as they communicated with each other was incredible. An amazing experience. I am glad we went last Sunday as it is snowy and icy here today. Ron
  10. Starlings in heart formation

    Starlings in heart formation

There's currently a modest sized Starling roost of about 10-12,000 birds at Fen Drayton Lakes RSPB reserve (between Cambridge and Huntingdon) and, as in previous years, I've spent many evenings photographing them over the last 2-3 weeks. Only rarely does the perfect combination of a beautiful...

  19. having a bath

    having a bath

I strolled along the promenade that keeps the waves from washing in and by the pier I saw a cloud of starlings flocking on the wing; above the waves, what e'er the weather, a storm of iridescent feather. Reigning o'er a watery stage, who choreographed this awesome dance which breeds compulsion...
