    Ignoring

But not for long, for the next picture the miner was giving the angriest look beak wide open, as if to say "Get off" LOL So a rest from my Lifers today, with two I've encountered before, Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater and Yellow-throated Miner

    Diving

Well actually I got that wrong, as the next moment he screwed himself upwards and was flew off LOL. I knew this was a miner, but still not sure how Peter managed to ID it as a Yellow-throated Miner! This was taken on the first morning of our stay at Rawnsley after a gorgeous meal the night...

I'm sure I dropped it there!

The first time I saw a Yellow-throated Miner trying to drink from a perch. Doesn't look too sure about whether it's possible, does he LOL.
  8. Yellow throat

    Yellow throat

Yellow-throated Miners are very similar to the Noisy Minor, but have a slight yellow wash around the throat area.
  9. Yellow in the red

    Yellow in the red

At last we'd arrived at Bowra. Hans and Judy went off to book themselves in (I'd need to stay at the hotel for a couple of nights first). So while they were away I busied myself by wandering around the compound to see what I could find. Here was a Yellow-throated Miner after some nectar in the...

    Two old friends

I'd seen both these species before, but never in the same place, so never before got them in the same frame. You'd think there was enough room at the water trough for them to drink at the same time, wouldn't you.
  14. Yellow-throat

    Yellow-throat

We had a wonderful meal at the site restaurant after we'd settled in to our cabins the previous evening. How they manage to produce such food in these arid outback conditions defeats me! I had a wander around the cabins before breakfast and found this Yellow-throated Miner (very similar to...
  15. The quiet one

    The quiet one

This is the Yellow-throated Miner, not the Noisy one LOL I rather liked this pose he managed on that stick.
  16. Not noisy

    Not noisy

This is a Yellow-throated Miner, which does look like his cousin the Noisy Miner, but if you look carefully you will see the yellow, not only on the forehead but on the sides of the neck too.
  17. In the grevillia

    In the grevillia

We eventually hauled up at the Bowra Station compound. While Hans and Judy were busily occupied with booking in, I took a wander round (in the shade!) and spotted this Yellow-throated Miner foraging in a grevillia bush.
  18. Yellow-throated Miner

    Yellow-throated Miner

Cousin to the much more aggressive and territorial Noisy Miner .

    SF: Where's the loo?

I know this is similar to a recent SF, but I thought this was better still! My last post for a a few weeks - we're off to see the warbler migration in Ohio and then my brother in Canada.

    Yellow-throated Miner

The Yellow-throated Miner is the country cousin of the Noisy Miner, which is a pest in residential areas. But the Yellow-throated is gradually hybridising out of existence the rare Black-eared Miner.
