200/400 f4 + 1.4tc or 200/500 f.6 (1 Viewer)

I used the Nikon 200-500mm which was a heavy lens but with better than average autofocus and image quality. A 400mm with a TC is going to be lighter and probably focus faster although this depends greatly on the camera that is used. For use in a blind a zoom is the better choice. Often a bird or other subject will be approaching the blind and not a great time to be changing lenses.

Hi, Thanks for the info. I currently use a D500 & AF-S ED 300mm f4 + 1.4tcll so 420mm f5.6 & it's great but i feel i just need more reach. I'm just a bit wary of the 200-500 not being sharper than my current combo & the 200-400 would be great with a 1.4 tc but it's even more weight & overall size.

Thanks

Many of the 150-600mm lens at that time were not really usable past 500mm so the 200-500mm was better lens. I tried all three of the Sigma 150-600mm lenses and they were not as good as the Nikon 200-500mm that I held onto.
