Hi, I currently use the lens above but i'd love to hear other folks opinions on the 300 + TC vs the big 200-500! It's only 80mm difference in reach & much heavier & would be the same 5.6 so it would have to come down to image quality to win me over.

Thanks

I used to have the same lens and TC setup. I only ever used it on APSC cameras and not on full frame.

I found it to be an exceptionally sharp setup. I did briefly have the 200-500 but I found that the lens barrel was just too big for me to hold properly so didn't keep it. If you have big hands that might not be a problem for you. I didn't really test it but based on my research before I got it I suspect it would not have been as sharp as the 300 + TC especially at the long end, although you do have the advantage of a bit more reach and a zoom.

Have you considered a used 500mm PF? It's also an exceptionally sharp lens and is a lot easier to hold than the 200-500 though you lose the zoom capability of course.

Hiya, Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. You pretty much said what i thought you'd say ; ) I really don't think i'd be very happy with the bulky 200-500 & i've read quite a lot of reviews saying the lens isn't that great in anything other than bright sunny light. I'll stick to my current set up for the time being.

Thanks again ; )
