After a couple of days sorting out the bureaucratic nightmare involved in visas, permits etc. for a survey next year I had the chance to accompany a team of researchers through the non-public areas of this reserve in the southern suburbs of Moscow. No sign of the Elk ( Eur. Moose ) that are there but I did manage Eur. Otter and Eur. Beaver.

After a look for clear felled areas on GoogleEarth I spent a Mosquito-free ( :t: )evening looking for Nightjar. The final count was a minimum of 5 bids, both seen and heard. Singing Eur Siskin and Less Redpoll, Eur Woodcock and a couple of Eur Badger rounded things off nicely.
