Well, it’s been just over three months since I parted with my £289 in return for this remarkable little gadget. I wanted something small and light that I could take anywhere. When I first started using it, it felt very strange compared to my binoculars. But I soon got used to the view and appreciate the stunning optical quality this little gem provides.
I use it for birds, planes, spying on the police helicopter, the night sky….The focus is pin point sharp. No colour fringing that I could see regardless of what I was viewing. Low light use is surprisingly good. And of course no collimation to worry about.
This little gem has now overtaken my Fujinon 16x70s and CZJ 10x50 Dekarems as my go to piece of kit.
If you are on a budget but want some quality kit, you won’t go wrong with one of these. Get passed the monocular view (not difficult) and you will be blown away. I recommend.

I just bought the 10x42 DBA VHD+ , it will be here in a week or less . I have a few questions .
1) How does the strap attach to the monocular , the pictures don't show . I would like to order a peak design quick release for it .
2) Is there an easy and safe way to attach the monocular to a monopod (Manfrotto pistol grip setup) . I know Opticron makes one but from reading about it it seems to be a bit flimsy .

I found a video on the Opticron website that answered my first question .
We owned Opticrons DBA VHD Monoculars, the original non ED and the ED version. Unlike most China sold monoculars which have the ability to Mount them on a monopod due to a attachment built into their underside and because the Opticron does not, you will have to find the type of attachment that physically holds the monocular to a monopod or tripod temporarily separate from Opticrons monocular body. On the internet there are different versions of these attachments to choose from but you will have to decide which works best for your application and use.

Thanks for answering my question .
I'm considering the Leica and Swarovski style adapter for binoculars but they are rather expensive although there are cheaper versions by other brands .
Opticron's adapter made for the DBA VHD+ monoculars has been discontinued but can still be found at some retailers such as B&H .

There will be a new tripod mount for our monoculars available early September. This attaches in the same way as the now discontinued model i.e. friction fit with locking screw over the objective end of the monocular body.

There will be variants for the Explorer and DBA VHD+ ranges. Price is still to be confirmed but should be around $20/£15.

Cheers, Pete

I ordered a Really Right Stuff cinch adapter . https://reallyrightstuff.com/cinch

I received the Opticron 10x42 DBA VHD+ Monocular yesterday . It seems to be a decent monocular upon first inspection and usage but it was a brief session . Early this morning I took a look at Jupiter and Mars with it and noticed that there is a rattle in the eyepiece . Not sure if it's a lens rattling or the entire eyepiece or the adjustable eye cup . It doesn't seem to be affecting the view but I believe I need more time with it to determine if it's affecting the view . How does one check alignment with a monocular ?
I think it should be returned to the seller , B&H . I hope they don't give me problems .

All of the Opticron DBA models I owned were solidly built, there should be no rattle sound. Send it back, there is definitely something wrong. Even if the view is not affected, the problem could get worse the more you use it. Do not give the seller a reason(excuse) down the road to reject you attempting to return it.

I started a return with B&H . Rather painless procedure so far . They are covering the return postage as they should .

Sorry folks , I got caught up in life and forgot to update . B&H sent me a replacement for the defective monocular and all is well with it , I am enjoying using it . It is almost always on a monopod .
