American Goldfinch strange behaviour (1 Viewer)

Recently I have been noticing many American goldfinches visiting my feeders. Today there was one bird in particular who was acting different from the other goldfinches. It seems like the bird is tired, he sometimes looks fluffy but other times fairly normal. He will sit at a feeder for a long time either do nothing or it will slowly peck at the food. Sometimes the bird will be very active and go from feeder to feeder but other times he will just hangout for long periods of time. I can’t tell if he is sick, young, or old. He has tried to land on my windows (not flying directly into them), seems fairly unaware of the space around him. Take a look at the photos and let me know what you think! DSC_0426.jpeg

Hi Bryn and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. I think this finch is ill, but I don't know the cause. We have some general guidelines here for the care of injured and baby birds. However, trying to catch him may cause more stress.

Wait and see if anyone else has any insights into his problem.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.
