John,
I was in Amsterdam last week and when travelling from Utrecht saw at least one hundred Egyptian Geese every day. I was surprised that they were so widespread, I hope you enjoyed your trip as I did?

Yes, it wasn't intended as a 'birding' trip but well...its in the blood.
Actually on a trip to see the windmills at Zanse Schansse (failry touristy area 15mins by train) in the wet fields alongside there were bar tailed godwit, greylag geese heron oystercatcher and even a marsh harrier and all this without my bins !!
The museums were OK too.........hehehe

I hope I don't offend you – if you would have had your bins you would probably have seen they were Black-tailed Godwits (still quite common, but rapidly declining through farming practices...)
Bar-tailed Godwit is a rarity away from the seashore & mudflats.
