Just making sure: IS there a field guide for Angola? The big Sinclair is a bit of an overkill, and the Southern Africa books don't say, but I think they all stop at the Limpopo.

you should think there would be a market for something in between such as one covering Angola to Cameroon and the Congos

P.s. SASOL guide is Namibia southwards

Bet van Perlo’s Southern Africa guide covers Angola; and his Western and Central covers the Congo’s etc. Admittedly it is not the best guide ever, but is probably worth taking in the absence of a better option.

West African guide might cover them, not got time to check.

My Collin's guide to West Africa doesn't cover Angola (stops at Gabon/Congo) and my Sasol Southern Africa stops at Namibia so it looks like Birds of Africa south of the Sahara by Sinclair and Ryan despite the size and poor maps is the only choice

I do have some news on this. I've just signed up a new Helm field guide to Angola, by Michael Mills, Ron Demey and Nik Borrow. Publishing 2024. (No field guide currently, no).
