Apple Feeder - not my idea but a good one (2 Viewers)

Here's another photo with Blackcap and Blackbird sharing perch. Apologies for poor image but it was nearly dark taken at iso1000 and 1/20th sec....

Wow, what a fantastic Idea!
I might give it a try sometime soon and see if it proves popular.

by the way , I put some halved apples on the lawn a few weeks ago and they've remained untouched. anyone know why this could be?

I also tried feeding apples a few times, and nothing will touch them. The only thing that shows interest is in summer......hornets.......NO THANK YOU.

I managed to attract a few Fieldfares back in January using apples, one stayed around for a few weeks, see the Gallery My Photo's johnny1.

Excellent idea, never heard of this one before! Has anyone in the USA had any success attracting birds with an apple feeder like this or does it only work across the big pond?

I've put out halved apples on the ground with no success, either. We have an apple tree out back that they like, though. I don't get it.

Maybe they would go for the trees on this kind of feeder, rather than on the ground? I couldn't put it in my back yard. though. We have enough trouble with raccoons back there already. I'm afraid my dog is going to actually catch or corner a raccoon one day. NOT a good idea!

Yesterday there was a little interest in the apples from a few blue tits, but they seemed very wary. Today at 07:49 I saw the first blue tit eating apple, and another a few minutes later :t:

Apple spike -

I've got an apple feeder up and there's been no interest whatsoever, must be the abundance of other foodstuffs available in my garden...........

be patient barnstormer I'm sure something will take interest at some point.
I had no success with putting halved apples out on the lawn, but after a few days starlings, blackbirds, sparrows and a song thrush have taken interest.

must try this apple-feeder sometime.

If you're lucky enough waxwings may take notice, though they aren't really 'garden birds', more like 'supermarket birds'!

Just wait til a fieldfare finds them! The first one has just found the apple hanging in our tree in the front garden, so that's one apple a day it will eat if it stays til March like they did last winter. I daren't work out the cost in apples alone!!

Here's a couple more shots. I now have had Blackbird, Blackcap, Starling, Bluetit, Song Thrush and Goldfinch feeding from it.
