April Competition Theme Challenge - 'Perched Bird'

The theme for April, 2007 is 'Perched Bird'.

Entries should be of a single perched bird. This is defined as a single bird which is stood e.g. on the ground, in the water, on a tree branch, fence, lampost, telegraph pole, roof top etc. Birds in flight will not be accepted.

The rules must be adhered to in order to avoid disqualification. The Moderators decision is final.

Rules -

1. Entry to have been taken in the last twelve months.
2. Date taken to be included in the entry - must at least include month and year.
3. Entry to be uploaded between 1st and the 20th midnight (GMT).
4. Entries must contain a single perched bird.
5. Location taken to be included and must include county/state and country.
6. One entry per member.
7. Only minor image adjustment is permitted, such as cropping, sharpening, contrast, and levels. The photo must not be otherwise greatly manipulated ie. objects should not be added / removed in order to enhance the shot - no composite images.
8. Once uploaded a photo is classed as an entry and cannot be replaced by another shot. However you have until the closing date / time of this competition to ensure that your photo meets the criteria.
9. The entry must be your own work and not previously submitted in a competition on this site.
10. The subject's common name must be given - though please add the scientific too!
11. Entries to be uploaded directly by entrants to the Monthly Photo Competitions Gallery.

A voting booth will be posted after the 20th.

Please note 30 entries will be selected for addition to the voting booth for members to vote upon.

Entries not selected for inclusion in the voting booth will be moved to their respective Geographical Gallery forum.

Comments on entries are permitted.

Any queries about this months competition - please post below.

I'm looking forward to seeing some great entries this month - as usual.

In the monthly competitions, can you enter a photo has been uploaded on the site previously but not in a competition? Because I am dying to upload a photo now but I also want to enter it in the August competition.

You can upload another copy of a photo already in the Gallery provided it hasn't been entered in another competition.

Ive never entered one of the photo competitions, So I wanna make sure I got it correct. Do I click on the link @ the top of this thread and just upload(as I have already) to the current gallery that pops up? Thanx.

What is the limit for photo size? i have a photo to submit but it keeps telling me it is too large... its a 458k jpg.
The size limits are 200kb and around 800x800 pixels.

For your photos you can use the 'save as' or 'save for web' option for your photo software and increase compression slightly until the file size is below 200kb.

Hey Admis,

I just posted a couple of shot from the Galapagos, but they are gone now, how come?

thanks

mike
The rules state one entry per member and you already have an entry in the competition.

The photos were moved to their geographic forum.

Thats a bit un-fair no?
If everyone who puts pictures in the gallery entered and then did numerous entries we would soon get fed up having to wade through all the pictures.

So the limit was put on as one entry and all the themes are put on at the begining of the year. This is so you can get in mind which image to use or see if anything better comes up in the meantime.

And remember out of all the entries only 30 make it through to the final decision. Which most members would say is more than enough when it comes to choosing the winner.
