This Gull feels like a Argentatus. Interesting with the dark eye but not a imm bird, with grey legs & complete white on primary tips p10 (although argenteus can have or appear to have white p10 at times) & darker grey wing coverts (darker than the BHGs its with) or I think then Argenteus grey, this bird does not have a round head, but does have a pale bill ect. 29082022

far from a definitive/confident answer, but one to bump this bird up.

Do you have more pictures, including an open wing-shot?

My first gut feeling was, it might well be a Caspian x Herring Gull hybrid, and then I decided to stay on the fence and hoped for comments.

After looking at this bird again, I got the some thoughts: more pictures and comments, please. Thanks!

no expert but im thinking herring gull though a location would help

quite a bulky bird, short primaries,short legs which appear pink

my gut feeling is a old herring gull

You'd need an open wing pic and ideally taken later in the autumn to check the tendentially stronger head striation. That said, overlap is quite total in the pattern of the two subspecies. Some mid winter argentatus on the British Isles get recognized by their very dark mantles, body bulk and striation to head kept longer than in argenteus. Also, less black, more white in wingtip. But from this pic alone it would be impossible to assign to subsspecies (and it is likely an argenteus by the end of august).

thanks for correcting me!
Was I wrong to suspect Caspian Gull influence (small, darkish eye and a slight resemblance to a Caspian Gull head-bill profile imo???)
