The federal government of Niederösterreich (Lower Austria) has announced to kill 200 buzzards and 50 goshawks until 31 January 2009. The reason: The prey of these birds include endangered wildlife like lizards. BirdLife Austria and the WWF have announced protests.

Wow, that is horrific!

60 years on from Aldo Leopold's predator conservation efforts and people have still not heard (or understood) his calls - killing predators does not help the prey!

200 common buzzards and 50 northern goshawks are to be shot in order "to protect" endangered species, but unexplainably, none of the endangered species they are trying to protect are prey items of either the goshawks or the buzzards - what an atrocity!

grrrrrr! :C
