Baihualing Hides and trails information (1 Viewer)

Hello all, I am going to Baihaling later this week and in preparation I am trying to find out more about the hides and trails there and what is currently being seen there. I will be spending some of the time hide birding/photography and some time walking the trails. I will have a hire car too so any recommended places nearby will also be welcome. I am mainly wanting to see/photograph the local specialities and fill a few gaps in my China list, birds mainly but also mammals and reptiles if I come across them.

Hi,

Do you have permission to enter? I visited in January 2024 and needed a permit from the local government to enter. Local Chinese birders could fill out a form at arrival but foreigners couldn't. I would be very happy if this has changed. Your knowledge may be more up to date than mine.

There is one road going up the side of the mountain. Dotted along this road are hides. They cost anywhere from 50-150 RMB a day from memory. There is only one trail called 'fairy mountain spring' or something like that. It has a hotspring at the end of the loop and can be popular with visitors. The trail is very scenic and holds quite a few birds.

The one road stops at a checkpoint to prevent access to Goaligong mountain, a UNESCO nature reserve. I am not aware of any other 'trails' other than the one mentioned above. It's mostly all hide bird watching.

Baihualing is remote, when you asked for places nearby to hire a car there's not many options. The only ones I can think about would be Baoshan train station or even the airport at Dehong/Tenchong depending on where you fly into.

Regading what's been showing, it's probably best talking to your accommodation when you arrive.

Hello samnew. Thanks for your input. Yes I have arranged permission and it has been granted. I have a car hire booked from Dali and will drive there.
