Baron Finot's invalid White-throated Robin (1 Viewer)

Björn Bergenholtz

(former alias "Calalp")
Sweden
I don´t know where Beolens, Watkins and Grayson (in The Eponym Dictionary of Birds, 2014, here) found any Baron Finot named "Auguste" (!?) that they claim is commemorated in:

finoti as in:
• the invalid "Irania Finoti" DE FILIPPI 1863 (here) [Synonym: Irania gutturalis GUÉRIN-MÈNEVILLE 1843]

The OD doesn´t tell us more than:
Questa specie porta il nome del Barone Finot, Console di Francia in Tiflis, che ha lasciato nell' animo de' componenti la missione italiana in Persia la più grata ricordanza, tante furono e così vigili e così continue e così schiettamente cordiali le cortesie prodigate a tutti ed a ciascuno durante il nostro soggiorno in quella capitale delle Provincie Russe Transcaucasiche.
As I understand it this bird was collected (in 1862) the year before the OD was published ... ? Other proofs of the hospitable Baron Finot (for example); here and here.

However; a similar explanation is also found in today's HBW Alive Key:
finoti
Auguste Baron Finot (fl. 1877) French Consul in Tiflis, Russian Transcaucasia 1863 (syn. Irania gutturalis).
From what I can tell the French Consul in "Tiflis" (today's Tbilisi, Georgia, Caucasus) in that period wasn´t any "Auguste", but an Adolphe Finot (consul à Tiflis from March 1856, consul de première classe le 28 mai 1864 ... and onwards).

Thereby I would instead say that finoti commemorates:
the French Diplomat Baron Antoine Bernard Adolphe Finot (1821–1887), 2nd Baron (d’Empire) Finot – agent consulaire in Rostock, Germany in June 1855; consul de seconde classe in Santander (October 1855) ; Consul in "Tiflis" (as above) and later in Warsaw (from April 1865), ... etc. etc., Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur (11 août 1862).

Born 23 September 1821, in Tulle (Corrèze) ... died 24 November 1887, in Paris. Also see here, here and here.

But, as always (especially on any French guys ;)): Don´t hesitate to prove me wrong!

Björn

The case seems pretty clear.

Just two details: his second given name should be 'Bernard', not 'Bernhard' (which is the German variant of the name); and he was born in Tulle (Corrèze), not in Paris.

On Léonore: [here].
Birth certificate: [here]; click on 'T' and scroll down to select 'Tulle'; go to page 9/21 of the results; open the second file: 'FRAD019_2E272_019: Naissances: 1820-1823'; go to image 304/733.
