I have several times written here about the Ecuador version of the fieldbook.

Miles McMullan and McMullan Birding (his publishing company in Colombia) have just announced an English version of their very nice Spanish field guide. (Field Guide to the Birds of Colombia - McMullan Birding). McMullan published a nicely-produced Spanish edition in 2021 based on the 2018 3rd Fieldbook edition, then revamped it again in 2023 with scan codes to eBird (a la Lynx FieldGuides) and updated taxonomy. Hopefully this 2024 English editions will get wide distribution. I hope McMullen will give the same upgrade to 2nd Fieldbook for Ecuador.
Price is totally absurd, especially as it is just an updated edition. I have the 2018 edition of the McMullan guide and did not pay nearly that much.
I doubt many people will pay that much for a field guide seeing as there is cheaper options such as An Illustrated Field Guide to the Birds of Colombia and Birds of Colombia.
It's 189 thousand! But Colombian pesos so yes it works out to about 45 USD or 40 Euros. I think those books are hard to get a hold of outside of Colombia though. For the Spanish-language books it's no big deal as most of the buyers will be Colombian but for an English edition it would be great to have other options for purchasing.

I can't agree with your assessment, and it seems that I'm not alone on that point. I find it well-designed and useful, as a reference AND as a field guideThat book isn't really at all practical as a field guide.
