i live small town outside Chelyabinsk an curious anyone recommending good food for bird here. new feeding birds to wanting to see what they like best and also what bird feeder is best
The feeder depends on the types of birds and what you will be feeding them. In general a platform feeder works for the widest variety of birds but is also the most easily raided by squirrels. There are platform feeders that include one or two mesh pockets for suet blocks.
Be aware that the cheaper bird seed usually includes seeds like red millet or cracked corn that most birds will not touch. You pay less in the long run with a seed mix that the birds will actually eat.
There are birds that will cling to a feeder and others that are 100% ground feeding and this is why there are the different types of feeders. Some models are easy to clean but the majority are not and this can cause problems over time with moldy seeds.
