binocular ad/review mistake (1 Viewer)

The guy’s probably an actor hired by the marketing folks who shot this video. Can’t blame him for lack of product knowledge.

Otherwise, great MIJ bins. I have this exact pair.

So... if you listen ONLY, the words are correct. His fingers are on the wrong focus knob while he is saying the line. (So at least the writers got it right.)

Perhaps I'm just a prig, but I would think professional pride would make him care enough to get things right.
Fifty years ago, one might think that. But in that time—even in the hands of the powerful in the industry—I have witnessed it crumble. Know what you're talking about, share it freely, stand by what you say. You will be looked at as a fool. Been there; done that. That's how, north of San Diego, my shop became the goto for optical goods and repair on the west coast, I was on the cover of newspapers, I was taking on work from "repair" shops, coast to coast, was the highest paid employee at Captain's, and on the board in less than 5 years. When you can do that, your competition will fall away. I was pleased to share my secrets—including collimation—with anyone who had the time to watch. Collimating a sextant was a black art. I had my mariners watch, so they would NEVER have to pay a dime, again. I was told I couldn't make any money doing things my way. I laughed all the way to the bank!
