Bird of Prey Challenge (1 Viewer)

What kit are you using? tha means you have 3 species more than i, will try for short eared and barn owls at some point in the week, where i normally go for these had reports on here of red kite and osprey at the weekend so fingers crossed

I have a Canon EOS50D with a 500mm f4 on the front of it and quite often a 1.4 converter as well.

What I do this weekend depends on the weather, I will hope to latch onto a local Osprey at some point this spring and we have breeding Red Kites nearby so that isn't a problem.

Hobbies are common on the Surrey heaths when they get in properly, but getting shots can be another matter!

I will struggle with Hen Harrier and Merlin until late autumn, unless I get up North over the summer.

Hours of fun for both of us I expect. Best of luck!

John

hope so, im 17 and only just learning to drive so if i win, its extra embarrasment for you lol but i am planning a trip to mull hopefully so should get a few there...

Mull is great, really good for both eagles, Hen Harrier on the lower moorlands and Short-eared Owls as well. Have a great time and good birding. Don't miss out on the Otter opportunities and try to get out to Iona for the easy Corncrakes as well.

the otters and deer will be getting viewed, but i wouldn't consider myself a birdwatcher, just birds of prey that float my boat so corncrakes will most likely not get searched for :)

Does Birdforum allow gambling? ;) The old timer against the exuberance of youth. Game on gents and good luck to both.

:-O I was going to use the Tortoise and the Hare analogy John but that sounded worse. I'm with you on those pesky mirrors btw. They also make me look fat;)

Rich
Sadly I resent old timer without being able to refute the label. Oh the march of time! In my head I am still 16 but there is summat amiss with the mirror.

Long afternoon getting buffeted by the North wind at the Burgh, just north west of Arundel. Worth the trouble, with prolonged views of Rough-legged Buzzard and occasional Red Kite flybys.

I also got a look at a local pale Buzzard that has been misreported as the Rough-leg a few times over the winter. I only got an indifferent shot but thought it might still be educational.

10 Red Kite
11 Rough-legged Buzzard

No, I agree with you, shrikes don't count.

I've got a rubbish pic of a Little Owl this week but I'm hoping to improve on it so I don't have to put it up here.

I'm managing my brother's stag night this weekend so its a write off, unfortunately!
