Birds in Cumbria (2 Viewers)

Bird watching in the lakes

Hello All,
I am a keen walker, angler, camper and ornithologist from Sunderland,Tyne and Wear.
I am trying to plan some weekends away from early spring onwards. (At this time of year I tend to stay closer to home on day trips).
I enjoy all sorts of birding, any tips on good places to base myself with good walks and above all plenty of opportunities to observe ? |=)|

Cumbrian birders in Spain

Hi all

Attached is a trip report, by Cumbrian birders Frank and Shelagh Mawby, of a week's birding holiday in Spain from 11th-17th October 2010.

It's in .doc format and contains highlights of migrant highlights such as Yellow-browed Warbler as well as the usual Lammergeier, bustards, sandgrouse, Black-shouldered Kite, etc.

If you want to see photos, with a shorter version of the text click here:

All the best and many thanks to Frank for writing it.

The farmers field full of Fieldfares again today. At the back of the reserve behind the Commordore Restaurant ,at the top of the hill. You will need a scope and cam or a 600mm lens plus ext.I did manage a couple of better shots today, but if they see you they are off,but they do return.

Great Grey Shrike at Long Marton, NY 665255. Seen this PM by me, and earlier today and yesterday by others, so it may be sticking around for a while hopefully.

For anyone who hasn't already heard, Red Necked Grebe, redhead Smew and Long Tailed Duck off the pier at Waterhead, Ambleside this week.

I am sure Steve(S) will not mind me mentioning his sighting of an Otter when he went looking for the Red Necked Grebe at Ambleside.
