Black-tipped Reef Shark (1 Viewer)

Thought I'd post this as it's a bit unusual.

Walking on the beach right outside my bungalow at Unawatuna in Sri Lanka and I noticed this small Shark swimming right on the tideline in less than 1/2M of water.

I know they sometimes take shelter from larger fish in mangroves so I reckon this little fella of about 40cm was just trying to avoid being eaten by a bigger brother?

I see small ones in shallow water quite often in Indonesia. Fun species.

Probably the commonest shark in Sri Lanka. Large ones (common in the past, but relatively uncommon today) can be aggressive. Giant Caranx (Caranx ignobilis) have been recorded as killing Blacktips in the Pacific. The larger Blacktip (C. limbatus) is also present in Sri Lanka in relatively deep water.
