"The new race is named in honor of the late Mr William Anderson, former Comptroller of Silliman University [Negros, Philippines], who aided field work in former years" (Rand & Rabor 1967) (subsp. Brachypteryx montana).

Maybe here is someone able to through some light on his live dates? Sure he was already dead in 1967.

No sorry (attached). Rand & Rabor were probably confusing late with "the former". The William you refer to was called William Anderson lll.

This is the wrong guy see post #7

Thanks to Laurent's healthy skepticism I took a deep-dive and found that family websites (as they often are) were wrong - William Andersen (1911-1978) and his family definitely existed but he was not the Comptroller of Silliman University on Negros - this Anderson family lived in the northern Philippines.

Here

"Our man" was an American (see attached). Indeed as American as you can be - a member of the Sons of the American Revolution!

He was William Lucius Anderson 1902-1958

He was heavily involved in the aviation industry in Pennsylvania being State Director of Aviation based at Harrisburg Airport. After his first wife died he had a bit of a mid-life crisis and, after remarrying, quit his senior position and traveled the world. He was for a time CEO of Air Jordan. He became an evangelical Christian taking on the beliefs of his second wife and due to his executive experience was appointed comptroller (CFO in today's lingo) of the Christian Silliman University in 1954 where his 2nd wife Elizabeth Russell Oberlin (1914-2002) also worked. He was an amateur pilot. He died in 1958 shortly after an emergency medical repatriation to the US.
