Cannot access bird packs on Merlin (iPhone) (1 Viewer)

I’ve just downloaded Merlin onto my iPhone and iPad, works fine on the iPad but doesn’t on the iPhone. It’s simply impossible to download bird packs. I click on the bird packs button and literally nothing happens. I’ve deleted and reinstalled a couple of times with no effect.
Anyone else with the same problem?
Cheers
James

No. Never had a problem on my iPhone. Is your OS up to date? Are you using wi fi? Have you checked to see whether settings on iPhone and iPad are the same?

It is impossible to install bird packs. The Merlin app on my Android tells me that bird packs are required. I type in the region (Eastern WA) and it says there are none available. I try nearby areas (Pacific Northwest, or WA State, or my city.) None available. My operating system is updated. I am new to birding and about ready to say forget it! Sooooo frustrating!

Would you not need US:West Coast?

If instead of typing in the text, you look at "All" bird packs, you can then browse then and select the one for you - probably US: West Coast

I would very much like to try looking in "All" bird packs, twitcherf, but how can I do this? As soon as I open up Merlin I get an exclamation in a triangle and the app says "Please install a bird pack." Touching on "Get a bird pack" does not work, it then simply says "Our bird packs do not cover this area," and clicking on "View all packs" only tells me "There are no packs available." When I go back to "Step by step," it says "Browse all packs," which leads me to "Our bird packs do not cover this area." I already have some recordings from the Grand Canyon while traveling last month, so hate to uninstall and reinstall the app as I will likely lose these.

Consult Merlin's help page:

My guess is you don't have location services turned on for the app, so it doesn't know where it is and therefore can't suggest the relevant pack. Share your recordings to a laptop so you don't lose them, in any case. Good luck!

You do not mention which OS your phone has. I have had luck transferring recordings to Dropbox from within the merlin app, but if you honestly cannot make it open at all, this might be a problem. Allowing location services hopefully will solve that? alternatively, can you allow beta versions and then cancel that afterwards to see if that makes a difference?

Ah ok,the behaviour is different when there is no pack installed. I would try typing "US: West Coast" as that looks like the pack you need.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

Do persevere though!
