I've gone ahead and moved your thread to the insect section. Wish I could help you out with your query but I'm sure someone will have an answer for you before long ;)
 
It's a dragonfly that's recently emerged from it's last nymphal skin- this cast skin is the exuvia. Not so well up on US species so can't ID it for you.

I knew that part. ;) That's why I took the photo like that. I was hoping to determine the species. Thanks for looking though.
