Hi All,

I was wondering what bird species you have seen foraging on the berries of cherry laurel. I'm particularly interested in those that are carrying the berries away, rather than wood pigeons that might sit there and consume. For example, have you ever seen blackbirds, thrushes, magpies, crows, jackdaws, jays etc remove fruits and fly off with them? Thanks, Duncan

Hi, Duncan. Welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group. I can’t help with your question, hopefully someone from your side of the big pond will come along to answer it soon.

Hi Duncan,

I've seen Blackbirds stripping them in-situ but not obviously taking berries with them. They don't seem to be a first choice of food either.

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

I don’t think I’ve noticed any birds taking the berries away, though I’ve seen wood pigeons, collared doves and jays feed occasionally.

Welcome to BF.
U might want to stick your question in a different section, it's an interesting one and I'm curious as to people's experiences. 🙂👍🦆

Hi Duncan and a warm welcome from me too. Sorry, I don't have any cherry laurel near enough to me to observe the birds so closely.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
