I'd be grateful for any info on this area. I'm visiting in July ( have to be within kids school holidays) and don't know much about it.
Thanks in advance
The Clot de Galvany is a small wetland near Los Arenales in Valencia. Some of the rarer Spanish ducks (Marbled Teal) have bred and the reed beds hold warblers and Glossy Ibis. Just to the South are the Santa Pola Salinas a large wetland with working saltpans. An excellent place for waterbirds, Flamingos, ducks, terns and rarer gulls. Arlequin's publication for this area "A birdwatching Guide to Eastern Spain" (Malcolm Palmer & Luis Fidel) is available directly from Arlequin Publishers or Amazon. A website where you may get some help is www.olivaramatours.com. If you e-mail professional birder/tour leader Jules Sykes he leads birding tours in this area.
Hi Tammy
The Clot de Galvany is at the back of the sprawling urbanisation of Gran Alicant signposted from the N332. Go straight across two roundabouts (about 2kms apart), good area for Rn Nightjar on the right hand side, and through an area with shops then the road drops down the hill. At the bottom there is a crossroads go left here (right is to the beach), drive for about 800m and park at the side of the road where there's an opening in the fence, which has steel wire across with a no entry sign (for cars). Walk in here and you take the right hand track for the Charco de Contacto where the Marbled & White headed Ducks, Purple Gallinules hang out amongst other things as there is water in here all year round. Walking left or straight takes you to the other pool that will most likely be dry in July as it only rain water fed. It's a great wee reserve and worthy of a visit any time of year.
Cheers Jules
I'm a new visitor to the forum and I appreciate the replies I've had.
Thanks particularly for the details, Jules. I'll be staying in Gran Alacant, so hopefully I'll have plenty of time to wander at the Clot.
