Coolpix 7900 adaptor (1 Viewer)

I have the 7900 and have read a lot about what adaptors to use but still a little confused.
The offical line is to use the FSB-1 adapter which will fit the 7900 but I was told that you also need a wide angle adaptor ontop of this before it will work with a spotting scope? This extra adaptor costs as much as the camera!!

I also see that there is the 6921 and 6916 adaptors for non DSLR cameras which say that you will also need a camera specific adaptor as well what are they referring to here?
My temptation is to purchase the scope first, play with handholding the 7900 up to the eyepiece and then work out what I can male or purchase to complete the setup.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Its most unusual for you not to have had any replies to your post - the members of Birdforum are just about the most helpful I have found.

Unfortunately I do not know anything about the camera but I am fairly sure that the camera specific adapter is one that has a specific thread size to fit the filter thread on the camera lens eg the filter size on the CP4500 is 28mm. This allows an adapter to fit different cameras by mating the specific filter size of the camera to the rest of the adapter.

I hope this makes sense

Cheers

Thanks Ken.
The 7900 does not have a filter thread hence the need for an adaptor of kinds to give it a thread.
Many have spoken about the 7900 a good digiscoping candidate that's why I am surprised I have not received any replies.

I think much depends on what scope you're looking at... As a novice I could also be wrong ;) But I've, for instance been looking at Nikon's 82 ED and their website seems to state that all you need for the 7900 is the FSB 1 to connect it to the Nikon scope. I've seen some good pictures with the 7900 on the web, but mostly people seem to use 990, 4500 with the Nikon scopes...

If you are happy with a Nikon fieldscope using the 7900 is fairly straightforward. You need a wide DS fieldscope eyepiece and a FSB-1A digital camera bracket. For more details go to

Altenatively I have a Nikon Digiscoping System brochure which shows the set up for a 7900 which I can scan and email to you.
