Does anybody know if Iona is still a good place to see corncrakes in early May?

I believe so swn. Before the Iris beds get too dense. And welcome to BirdForum from all the staff and moderators by the way.

Thanks Rich. There is a thread on this from 2006 and I was worried the population there had declined since then or the iris beds were growing too high earlier in the season due to climate change.

Calling males between 20 and 30 as per the attached photo of an info board. It’s situated on the track which leads southwards from the jetty over to the golf course area to the north. A good area for the birds. I was recently lucky enough to see two, in mid May.

Not so much the Corncrakes - I'd call a golf course a health hazard for them!
