Corsican Gen Request (2 Viewers)

California Quail was duly seen today with many thanks to Val35's expert assistance near Linguizetta.

Also 4 Spotted Flycatcher types seen by me with 1 extreme Mediterranean & 1 extreme Spotted & 3 currently also identified as Mediterranean subject to photo & identification paper scrutiny. They were near Linguizetta, les Dunes de Prunette & L'Etang de Bugligia.

No progress on the 4 subspecies for me.

Corsica is exceeding my expectations. Our trip list nears 100 species & I have recorded 94 with several year ticks despite precious trips to Europe this year.

A day in the mountains planned tomorrow.

All the best

Paul

A few quick Back Of Camera pics while I am having a beer or two..... Looking forward to getting some of these on the computer. Hopefully, a few can be improved tomorrow.

All these birding trips are to be valued ... ;-)

Nice one! I managed a single flight view of California Quail on my trip back in 2013 (that long ago?!) over a vineyard somewhere. Think I got my other targets (wasn't aware of subspecies, not sure if flycatcher was split/on my radar then?) good to read about these places again. Good luck mountain-wise.

;-)

At airport on way back. Corsican Nuthatch at three locations & Corsican Finch at maybe five locations. We found a Nuthatch nest yesterday evening at Col de Sorba. Over 100 species & migration better than I expected - Bee-eaters, Roller, Golden Orioles, Honey Buzzards, Red-footed Falcons, Icterine Warblers, etc. I'll do a short trip report but 4th in line currently. Now 14 of my 27 "European" WP missing species done & now time to sort out the other 13. Planning meeting needed. A short R&R with friends & no targets first. I'll post some pics when done to close this thread off for anyone who finds it in future. But a back of the camera male and female Corsican Nuthatch nest handover shot for the hell of it. 😀

Thank you all especially Jos & Valentin who was a star & good to say hello.

All the best

Paul

Great stuff Paul and congratulations on those 14 ticks! Looking forward to reading your trip reports when you get time.

Slightly under 74 hours on the island so pleased to pick up some migration with Red-footed Falcons, Golden Oriole, Montagu's Harrier, Honey Buzzard, Icterine Warbler, Bee-eaters, Roller, etc.

If you get a chance, it is a fantastic island. I'll get to that trip report.

Thanks all again

Paul

Thanks for the all the tips here: Col de Sorba was great. Made some stops along the climb and walked off-trail at places. Second stop I found a large feeding flock, including two Nuthatches, three Treecreepers and plenty Coal Tits and Goldcrest. Parked at the 'top' and when exiting the parking lot to walk further up, 4 Crossbill flew past. It reminded me a lot of the Troodos Mountain area on Cyprus. Also had a flock of Long-tailed Tits, along with some Great Tits down at the coast. Eurasian Jay is very common across the entire island, I found, and they are very cool-looking! Great Spotted is similar in its abundance. Wren also at Col de Sorba. Northern Goshawk didn't pan out, but that didn't bother me in the slighest.
Basically, one morning (3/4 hours) at Col de Sorba end of August will result in all target species, in spring it should be even easier. Nuthatches were quite silent.
