Corvus pumilis vs. Corvus pumilus (1 Viewer)

I've recognized that there is no consistent spelling for the Latin name of the extinct Puerto Rican Crow. While Wetmore (1920) and Brodkorb (1978) were using the spelling pumilis, current systematics (e.g. Hume & Walters (2012) are using the spelling pumilus. So which one is correct and why?

The original description was Corvus pumilis Wetmore 1920 and pumilis is a correctly spelled Latin word (meaning dwarfish).

So in my opinion pumilus (meaning dwarf) is an unjustified emendation.
