Hi All

In my niaivity I thought that cottongrass was just cottongrass, I now know there is more than one.

I think I have narrowed it down to Eriophorum angustifolium and Eriophorum vaginatum.

If there is enough in the picture or locality, could someone please ID for me?

Yours, Gareth

With a single, upright flowering tuft per stem, this is Hare's-tail Cottongrass, Eriophorum vaginatum. The other common species is Common Cottongrass, Eriophorum angustifolium, which has more than one flowering tuft. There are a couple of other species, but these are much less common and also have multiple flowering tufts.
