cheers dave123,just after I posted these pics,I was on a wildlife photo sight and the first pic I saw was a broad bodied chaser,the same as mine.AS for the other I will go for what you say.thanks a lot.
 
Given your location, I wouldn't write off Common Hawker for the second one. Tricky from that angle, but the coloured costa is suspicious.
 
Even from that angle I think you'd be able to see the edge of an antehumeral stripe on Southern, so Common looks more likely to me.

Also the markings are yellow rather than green. Plus the thoracic stripes are very distinct whereas they are more of a block of colour on Southern. So yes, definitely Common Hawker Aeshna juncea . Which makes me envious as they are a rare beasty in Wiltshire!
