I hope no one's offended by this picture, but we found this poor guy adrift this winter. :-CI have never seen a fish like it and any help in ID would be appriciated.

My guess is that it’s a Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus). The flap at the end of its gill cover is black with no red spot whereas on a Pumpkinseed the black flap ends with a red spot. You can also see the dark spot or blotch on the lower rear of the dorsal fin which Bluegills have.
