Dissuade starlings (1 Viewer)

We have a WBU window feeder with dried mealworms for bluebirds. Starlings can barely perch on the edge of the feeder tray. The shape of the edge is about a 1/4-inch half round along the top edge of the 1 inch deep tray. Is it possible to change the shape of the edge so that starlings won't be able to perch at all?

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of Us on staff at BirdForum. We’re glad you found us and please join in wherever you like :)

Hopefully someone will have some suggestions for you.

Probably not. A better idea would be to find out what Starlings really like and give them their own well-stocked feeder well away from the bluebird one.

Thank you John. They do like the suet which isn't far enough away. This is the first year out of several here so far that there has been a problem. Maybe they won't be back. I've also seen the feeder which is a large cylinder with sides of 1 1/2 inch metal mesh and a bowl of feed in the middle. Seems effective if the bluebirds can figure it out.
