Do other birds eat bluebird eggs? (1 Viewer)

I’m a bird lover and live near Austin. I particularly love bluebirds. I have a question-my bluebird laid 5 eggs two weeks ago. Occasionally I would check box. But I noticed I hadn’t seen the birds around like they would normally after laying eggs. So, I checked the box and all of the eggs were GONE-I noticed another bird was in the box one day. Do other birds eat bluebird eggs??

Hi, welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I don’t know about eating the eggs, but house sparrows, house wrens, and woodpeckers are all known to damage bluebird eggs.

It sounds as though a larger bird that could grab the egg with it's feet is to blame here.

Hi Micharb and a warm welcome to you!
