Effect of varnishing moth trap (1 Viewer)

I am intending to weatherproof my plywood moth trap with yacht varnish but just wanted to check whether this might be in anyway dangerous to the moths or affect the effectiveness of the trap. Any thoughts please?

I doubt it would be a problem as long as it is dry but personally I always painted my traps with white exterior gloss for the same reason as when I dont use a trap I shine the light onto a white sheet as that seems to pull things in far better than using a dark sheet
