Field Guide for Mallorca (1 Viewer)

HI. I can recommend the tourist's guide. It lists all the most important sites and has a very comprehensive list of species to be seen and where is best. It includes some very interesting walks which are not known or published elsewhere, for instance, the central plain which is great for Red-footed falcons and Lesser kestrels amongst other species of raptor and also good for larks and pipits. Have a great time and do post your list. Thanks, Mike

Thanks for the help.
Mike - you suggested postiing the list - where should that be posted? On this forum?

Once again, many thanks. Phil

You don't mention which part of Mallorca you are visiting, we always stay in Cala Bona and have always got a good list of birds by just walking or getting the small road train to a nearby town which cost about 2 euros. We never even had to hire a car to find them

Here is my Husbands write up of our stay in 2005 [that is the last one he bothered doing one for but it was pretty much the same for the following years.]

Despite today´s rain at s´Albufera (probably over the entire island), I´ve added a few more species to my list:

Night Heron and Little Bittern just out the back of Bishop II. Crag Martin and Red rumped Swallow (sorry, cannot find the hyphen on this Spanish keyboard!) at CIM.

Also saw female Blackcap, Redstart, Hoopoe and Dunlin.

Yesterday saw a huge water spout (tornado) beyond the bay of Pollenca, just before the storm arrived with it´s painful hailstones!!

Thanks for the guidance. I am hoping to be going to the North East, probably staying in Soller.

Hope the weather improves by next month!

Phil

Yes, weather awful here in the South today as well. I just love those tornados, great to watch and sometimes seen far out to sea. I managed a short walk around Mondragó. Common Redstart, Turtle dove and Wheatear were the only new arrivals though. Mike

Marmot. You are right, there is some great birding to be had around where you stay and it is seriously underwatched, so anything is possible.
I was very interested to read your report from 2005. You list Rock sparrow but I have only ever seen them at Cap Blanc in the south. I know they are very scarce so I would be very interested to go and look for them. Would it be possible to let me know exactly where you saw them, If you have any details that would be great, thanks. Mike
