Fife - Scaup v's Tufted (1 Viewer)

One from this morning. Poor light at the time, so poor quality photos at distance. I have lit up the copies of the two photos.

Seems to have some greyish flank/wing markings. No hint of tuft. Extensive white at base of bill, with less above than at sides, possibly indicating juv fem Scaup. Hint of paler cheek patch, maybe.

Against Scaup though, possible broad black bill tip, although as with previous features, I'm unsure what is true feature and what is poor lighting effect. Not seeing any hint of pale band bill marking.

Any thoughts?

Just looking at the proportions, not plumage, as if the bird is far away in backlight.

Submerged, tail in the water, long back, large head (not rounded), thick neck, huge bill. Possibly there is a (one out of 10.000?) Tufted individual with all these characteristics. Overall impression is Scaup.
