Hi
Read lots of threads about buying first scopes, looking for more advise.
Don't really have strict budget and happy to save for a bit to get a decent scope, which one do you think is best?
Have leica binoculars which are great but think scope would be better for Loch of Strathbeg(wetland) and looking out to sea.
Wondered what is good and reasonable without going for the most expensive scope for a slight improvement in quality
Cheers
Tom

Any of the alpha brands is going to be a "decent scope"...

You need to be a little more specific than "reasonable" when it comes to your budget. Also, don't forget to factor in the cost of a tripod (it too needs to be "decent!").

Older Nikon Fieldscopes..like the ED82 or EDIII have always been regarded as top quality while staying in the reasonable budget point...older kowas too,,like the 82 mm prominars, if you dont mind second hand..or the current 663/664 if you prefer smaller size,a new one would not be super expensive either, and is a superb scope ..current Kowa 773/774 is reasonable in price ,I would say...and second hand Swaroski HD ATM80 are seen lately in the 1000-1200 pounds price point with ocular..that is more than reasonable for the performance offered...

Uttings are selling a new Nikon ED 111 straight + stay on case for £399. Add an eyepiece for about £250-£300 and you will have a excellent scope.
