Great-Tailed Grackle? (1 Viewer)

If this was on the west coast of North America, it's a great-tailed grackle. But location info is essential with an ID request. The date should also be given. Thanks.

Yes, female Great-tailed for me - the long bill, pale underparts (cf to the rufous/rich colouring of female Boat-tailed or the dark colouring of Common), the pale eye (where it overlaps with Great-tailed, Boat-tailed have dark eyes), also the diagnostic face pattern with stripe above the eye and pale throat.

Edit, just to add, further to rkj’s request for location (which should always be provided!) regardless of location, the only real confusion species on plumage and structure with Great-tailed is Boat-tailed, the latter being on the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, but where they do overlap in the Gulf, as stated above, they can be separated on eye colour.

Great-tailed Grackle, as I assume the photograph was taken in or near John's home location/location of his last several posts.

Following up on Deb's last post, Boat-tailed Grackles on the Atlantic coast, where there is no overlap with Great-tailed Grackles, also have pale eyes.
