Hei. I started out just enjoying feeding and identifying the birds in my yard in Norway. It slowly grew to keeping lists of what I saw the different places I went, and now here I am, traveling with the main intent of finding new sightings in beautiful places. Currently I’m sitting at Lagoa De Santo André in Portugal, joining a bird forum site. Ain’t life grand? :)

Hi eswanke and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

Ain’t life grand?
It sure is, most of the time anyway. Just now though, if it's nice and warm where you are, I wish I was there!! LOL

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news. Happy New Year to you.

Hi eswanke, welcome to the forum. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group.

Hi eswanke

Welcome,
Portugal is a great place for birds and I am slightly envious of you and that I am in the now freezing cold UK.
Have a great time!

regards
Merlin

This place is amazing. I am not a serious birder, so my Sighted list was pretty short (100ish), but I’ve logged 31 new sightings in a day and a half here. And that’s not counting new sightings I can’t identify because they were there and gone too quick.
Question, what are the best apps for identifying? I use Collins Bird Guide and there are times I don’t find what I think I saw. Any insight to other sources would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, E

I'm not sure about mainly pictorial guides, but in case you're not aware, Merlin ID app recognises bird sound. Not 100% accurate, but
I've just started using it and I'm finding, I'm already learning more about the bird songs in my garden.

Thanks for the reply. I also have Picture Bird, which identifies by sound. Also not always accurate, but it’s helped a number of times.
