Just wanted to say hello to everyone I'm new to the platform! My name is Colby (OKDIRTOUTLAW) and I'm from Tulsa, Oklahoma..USA! Anyway I've come for some help identifying a raptor I have nesting in my front yard. I don't have but just a few pictures right now but will get more if needs be? I have a total of three of these birds using trees in my yard right in the middle of town. They seem small compared to the Red Tailed hawks I have out at my lake property. These guys are very light in color ranging from grey to light brown. I haven't got a pair of binoculars here so I haven't gotten a detailed look really! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance

Hi Colby and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Sorry, I'm not very good at identifying your raptors, so I'll move your post to the ID forum. I have no doubt someone will soon be along to help you.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing about the birds you see around you.

Thank you so very much for getting put in the proper place to ID these guys!!

Welcome to BF.
I fear your photos suffer from that awful (phone?-)camera artefact that deconstructs an image and reassembles it without much regard to the original (no offence) - but... this looks like a Buteo and the only one I could easily see it being is a juvenile broad-winged hawk (dumpy proportions, stripey chest) - which does, roughly at least, occur where you are.

Yes unfortunately the camera on my Samsung phone is not the greatest but unfortunately I'm the only one here at the house this evening! So hopefully tomorrow I can barrow my nephews camera to get a few better shots of these guys! Although your ID is one of a few I had wrote down as a possibility! I'll be the first to admit outside of ducks and geese birds are not my thing...I'm a fisherman! These little guys have me curious and looking up at the sky and in my trees searching for them quite often since they have put a nest in my front yard! They have chosen a pretty good place to set up shop there are plenty of squirrels, rabbits, mice and do I dare say cats for them to hunt and eat! Butty thanks again for your reply and your thoughts on the ID of my new tenants!!

Not a broad-winged hawk for me: general appearance wrong. Also, first image suggests wing tips exceed tail (completely wrong for the hawk). I'd go for juvenile Mississippi kite: bill, jizz fits that better suggest
Well spotted, I agree, surely Mississippi Kite indeed ! Length of wings eliminate all Buteo hawks.
