HI everyone, just wondering if you could help with the id of these Hoverflies please. Also does anyone know what the Black Fly is? It was tiny!

Heres a link to my flickr set, I believe I have 2 sp of Hoverflys Thanks in advance for the help :t:

To be honest Michael - I was put off by having to look at a flickr set - some forms of personal storage are banned at work - easier to see them if they are attached in line.

Fortunately I can see your set :-

Episyrphus balteatus or marmalade fly is the small narrow bodied species with the narrow black lines across its abdomen segments.

The other fly *might be* syrphus ribesii, its a female with the typical syrphus style moustache band markings, with clear yellow rear femur, typically these flies need to be determined with a hand lens - unless you can get a picture showing the hairs on the upper surface of the (infamous) squama...

Can't say much about the other fly, its pretty bristly, so I'm guessing a tachnid.

Good crisp shots anyhow.

Cheers,
Matt

Thanks very much for the replies, been having computer issues, so was unable to attach to my op.
Here they are attached here
Edit, so the 1st 2 are Marmalade fly.
