All found in the UK as I am only 14 and have only properly birded the UK hope too add more soon.

72 worldwide, 42 for my ABA list (43 if the Mexican Duck split passes this year). Still actually missing a fair share of the regular strays and arctic ducks.

Below is the list of those birds I have seen and taken pictures of (not in an aviary/capture setting but rather in the wild). Living where I do I have access to many waterfowl from Sept - April and feel lucky for that. Not on the list are also some hybrid birds I have found along the way. There are still a lot I'm missing but I hope that I will eventually have a complete list (w/ pictures) Just so I can say I did it someday. I was going to load up some pictures but I think I have a sizing issue. Maybe I can figure it out and add to it???

Cheers,

Adam

How does Mexican Duck differ from Black Duck? Googled images and looks very similar :)

Jan

Jan-Paul, the American Black Duck is much darker brown than the Mexican Duck. I think the more difficult determination of ID is between the Mexican Duck and the Mottled Duck. To me these two are quite similarly plumaged. * Sibley states in his field guide that virtually no pure Mexican Mallards occur in North America (maybe he means in the USA).

Wingman, that is an excellent list! You live in a great place to view the various species of waterfowl. Were all of your photos from Washington?

Thanks... Like I said the list is a work in progress but waterfowl is my passion so I will keep trying. We just moved to Washington from Oregon in October 2010. The Whitefronts was taken on the the Oregon Coast. Snowgoose was taken Freezeout Lake in Montana. The Barrow, Harli, & RB Merg were all taken on Puget Sound a few minutes from my house. The Pac Brant are just starting to show up and stage before heading north. I've had a lot of fun chasing them around. It's been a real education.

Cheers,

Adam
